Cement demand growing in India: Ladiwala

MUMBAI: Sanjay Ladiwala, President, Cement Stockists and Dealers Association of Bombay, says North India is seeing the maximum demand for cement because of the infrastructure projects.

While the South is lagging behind, there is substantial improvement in the East, he said.

Reasons for strong dispatches

North Indian cement companies have seen growth due to increased in demand from CWG
Realty and infrastructure sectors pushed cement sales higher
Jan-Mar quarter seen as a strong quarter
Companies also looking at a price hike of Rs 4-5/bag in West and North India
AP looking at an even larger hike of Rs 11-12/bag
Prices in AP were below the breakeven point
Capacity additions in cement have also been defered
