MUMBAI: India’s largest car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India on Monday reported its highest monthly sales of 95,649 units for January, a jump of 33.3 per cent over the same month last year.
The carmaker had sold 71,779 units in January 2009.
“This is the highest ever domestic as well as total sales for the company,” Maruti Suzuki India said in a release.
Domestic sales witnessed a jump of 21 per cent at 81,087 units compared to 67,005 units in the same month year-ago, the company said in a statement.
Sales of the A2 segment, comprising models Alto, Wagon R, Zen, Swift, A-Star and Ritz, were at 58,540 units against 46,899 units in January last year, up 24.8 per cent.
The A3 segment (Swift Dzire and SX4 sedans) sales grew by 36.5 per cent to 8,995 units in January 2010.
MSI’s oldest model M800 sales declined by 55.2 per cent to 2,494 units in January.
Exports during January 2010 witnessed a massive jump of 205 per cent to 14,562 units against 4,774 units in the year ago month, the company said.
Tata Motors’ total sales (including exports) of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles in January 2010 were 65,478 vehicles, a growth of 77% over 36,931 vehicles sold in January 2009. The company’s domestic sales of Tata commercial and passenger vehicles for January 2010 were 62,202 units, a 74 % growth over 35,704 nos. sold in January last year.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) today announced its highest ever domestic auto sales for the month of January 2010.
The company registered domestic sales of 28,988 units, as against 17,320 units in January 2009, an increase of 67.4%.
Total UV sales in January 2010 which includes the Scorpio, the XYLO, the Bolero and Pick-Ups stand at 20,332 units, as against sales of 13,397 units in January 2009, which is a growth of 51.8%.
The Mahindra Gio, which created the new compact truck segment, has been receiving a tremendous response from all launch markets.
Mahindra's YTD domestic sales stand at 230,190 units in January 2010, as against 174,873 units for the same period last year.
The company sold a total of 30,149 vehicles (Domestic + Exports) in January 2010 as against 17,611 vehicles sold in January 2009.
M&M sees challenges in the near future, as its margins would be under pressure due to galloping commodity prices. The company hopes to counter this with a strong volume performance and a persistent focus on cost control.
TVS posted a 34% growth in two-wheeler sales for January 2010 when compared with the sales in January 2009.
The company sold 1,25,578 vehicles in January 2010, including 16,074 units of exports.
Domestic sales were up 37% in January 2010 at 1,09,504 units.
Exports rose 15% in December 2009 at 16,074 units.
Hyundai Motor India announced monthly sales of 52,635 vehicles in January, up 41.6% from a year earlier.
Hyundai's domestic sales rose to a 12-year high of 29,601, data showed.
General Motors India showed record growth, led by its flagship Chevrolet brand, as sales jumped 139% in January, against the same period last year.
GM India said its sales totalled 9,421 vehicles - its highest in a month - against 3,937 last year. The Chevrolet Spark sold 3,477 units and 2,825 units of the Chevrolet Beat, launched recently in India.
