MUMBAI: Shilpa Shetty's Rajasthan Royals is now looking beyond the Indian Premier League (IPL) and has embarked on a global partnership with four overseas Twenty20 teams, which will now be a part of the Royals2020 franchise.
With this Rajasthan Royals hopes to become a leading name in the international Twenty20 circuit apart from the Indian Premier League.
The winners of the inaugural IPL tourney Rajasthan Royals owned by Emerging Media and actress Shilpa Shetty among others, is tying up with four other clubs around the world.
Under the partnership, England's Hampshire Hawks, South Africa's Cape Cobras, West Indies' Trinidad & Tobago and Australia's Victoria Bushrangers will be part of the new franchise, called the Royals2020.
All the teams will affix the term 'Royals' to their names, besides turning out in similar Royals kits. The teams will also share revenues from any global sponsor of the Royals brand.
The mission is to grow a fan base; grow the commercial platform for all; provide opportunities for players to develop their talent.
The Indian Premier League has become immensely popular and is valued at around $2 billion by independent brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance. The Rajasthan Royals was ranked the third most valued IPL brand after Shah Rukh Khan's Kolkata Knight Riders and Mukesh Ambani's Mumbai Indians.
The Rajasthan Royals franchise is owned by Emerging Media group and is Chaired by Manoj Badale.
