As the first stock exchange in India, the Bombay Stock Exchange, BSE Market, is considered to have played a very important role in the development of the country's capital markets. The Bombay Stock Exchange, BSE Stock Market, and the Bombay Stock Exchange Market, also called BSE Market, is the largest of 22 exchanges in India, with over 6,000 listed companies. The Bombay Stock Exchange Price, BSE Share, is closely followed. It is also the fifth largest exchange in the world. The Bombay Stock Exchange Market, BSE Market, including the Bombay Stock Exchange Price, BSE Share, uses the BSE India Sensex, also called BSE India Index, an index of 30 large, developed BSE India stocks, measured through BSE Share. This BSE Index, which is represented by a BSE India Chart, gives a measure of the overall performance of the Bombay Stock Exchange Market, BSE Market, also called BSE Stock Market, and is closely followed around the world. Based on the Sensex, BSE Share, or the BSE India Index, which is represented by the BSE Chart, the BSE equity market, BSE Stock Market, measured through BSE Share, has grown significantly since 1990. In addition to individual stocks, the Bombay Stock Exchange Market also deals in derivatives, which was the first to be established in India. Together with the BSE Index they comprise the Bombay Stock Exchange Price, which is shown as BSE Chart and measured through BSE Share. Listed derivatives on the Bombay Stock Exchange Market, BSE Stock Market, include stock futures and options, BSE Index futures and options, and weekly options. The Bombay Stock Exchange Market, BSE Market, is also actively involved with the development of the retail debt market. The Bombay Stock Exchange Market, BSE Market, believes that a retail market will bring great opportunities to individual investors through better diversification. The Bombay Stock Exchange Market, BSE Stock Market, developed the BSE Sensex, available as BSE Online, based on the BSE Index in 1986, which is represented by the BSE Chart, giving the BSE a means to measure overall performance of the exchange. In 2000, BSE Index, available as BSE Online, was used to open its derivatives market, trading Sensex futures contracts. The development of Sensex options, available as BSE Online, represented by BSE Chart, along with equity derivatives followed in 2001 and 2002, expanding the BSE's trading platform, available as BSE Online. Historically an open-cry floor trading exchange, the Bombay Stock Exchange Market switched to an electronic trading system, now available as BSE Online, in 1995. It took the exchange only fifty days to make this transition. Bombay Stock Exchange Market as a brand is synonymous with capital markets in India. The India BSE SENSEX is the benchmark equity index, represented by BSE Chart, which reflects the robustness of the economy and finance. At par with international standards, BSE has been a pioneer in several areas. In 2002, the name The Stock Exchange, Mumbai, was changed to BSE. BSE, which had introduced securities trading in India, replaced its open outcry system of trading in 1995, when the totally automated trading through the BSE Online trading (BOLT) system was put into practice.
