NEW DELHI: All major museums like Louvre in Paris, National Gallery in London, Museum of Modern Art in New York are on the top of our must visit list when we are traveling abroad but when it comes to India the few government museums mostly fall off the itinerary list. Therefore private initiatives like the latest Kiran Nadar Museum of art sponsored by the Shiv Nadar Foundation are a hope to spruce up the museum infrastructure of the country.

This private museum is presently housed at HCL technologies campus in Noida on the outskirts of Delhi. It occupies a space of 13,000 sq ft and gallery will be moving to a more spacious 80,000 sq ft area in the next two years.

Kiran Nadar will be showcasing nearly 300 art works that she collected over two decades. Private initiatives like this only helps in grooming the art infrastructure of the country as the government museums lack both volume and display of art works.

Shukla Sawant, Associate Proffessor, Visual Arts, says, “This is a way to go if one does it with passion.”

As of now museums hardly make it to the itinerary list when one travels to India unlike when one travels internationally. But maybe with more and more private initiatives like KNMA, the art infrastructure of the country may get its rightful place map on the tourists map.
